Fashion-Forward Destinations to Rediscover Your Personal Style

Prior to the global pandemic, our research shows that fashion was top of mind for many style-savvy travelers with 39%* planning to include at least one day of shopping during the trips they were planning to take in 2020. However, during our unexpected time at home, many of our daily outfits have consisted of comfy pajama pants and a simple hoodie, all day and all night long. But as it becomes safe to travel again, it’s time to rediscover our fashion sense and switch the pajamas for something more stylish and inspiring.

Our recent research conducted across five countries shows that a quarter (24%)** of travelers plan to take a city trip as their first post-Coronavirus getaway. Instead of flocking to the well-known fashion capitals of the world, we are sharing five alternative must-visit fashion-forward destinations that are highly endorsed by travelers for shopping. They are also all located in some of the world's most fashionable countries, for those considering some much needed retail therapy as it becomes safe to travel again.

Cannes, France

Even though many well known global fashion brands originate from Paris, fashion-forward travelers should not overlook stylish Cannes. Situated on the French Riviera, Cannes is a luxury resort town known for its annual festivals celebrating international films and creativity. But Cannes also offers some amazing options for those looking for a serious fashion fix. According to our travelers, some of the top endorsements for Cannes include shopping and luxury brand shopping. Upscale fashion boutiques can be found along the coast at the mainstreet Boulevard de la Croisette, while the top fashion brands can be found in Rue d’Antibes.

Where to stay: Located just a few steps away from Cannes’ main shopping streets La Croisette and Rue d’Antibes, travelers can enjoy an incredible stay at Hotel Verlaine. Each floor of the building has its own theme, including 'jungle' and 'butterfly'. The property is centrally located with attractions such as Palais des Festivals de Cannes and Les Princes Casino just around the corner, making it easy for guests to explore the city by foot.

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Fashion capital Dubai has been a favorite destination for many travelers who are into fashion and shopping. But with its wide range of top quality boutique stores, decadent shopping malls and bustling markets, Abu Dhabi is a great alternative destination for fashionistas to consider as it becomes safe to travel again. Travelers can shop til they drop in one of the many modern shopping malls the city has to offer, including the Abu Dhabi Mall, with more than 200 stores, and Yas Marina Mall, with over 400 stores. Travelers interested in traditional clothing should also plan a visit to Souk Central Market, Abu Dhabi’s first souk. This traditional Arabic open-air market is a bustling shopping area offering charming antiques, perfumes, handmade shoes and traditional clothes.

Where to stay: Enjoy a relaxing stay at Villa Lazuli, a one-of-a-kind property just outside the city center of Abu Dhabi. It's a great option if traveling with a group of family or friends, as it offers 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. Guests can join a lovely family dinner on the beautiful terrace and relax after a full day of shopping in the property’s garden. Al Wahda Mall and Louvre Abu Dhabi are both a short drive away, and since the property also offers free parking, it’s perfect for guests with a rental car.

Hamburg, Germany

Germany of course has trendy capital Berlin, but travelers looking to enjoy shopping should also consider visiting Hamburg. Booking.com endorsement data shows that shopping is one of the most popular endorsements used by travelers who have visited Hamburg in the past. The main shopping street in Hamburg is called Mönckebergstraße, where travelers can find big department stores. Travelers preferring to shop at boutiques should visit the Pöseldorf district, which also happens to be the place where world-renowned fashion designers Jil Sander and Wolfgang Joop started their careers. For travelers into vintage shopping, Karoviertel is a must-visit with its narrow streets lined with quirky boutiques and second-hand stores.

Where to stay: Located in the heart of the historic center of the city, just a short walk away from the main shopping street Mönckebergstraße, Eric Vökel Boutique Apartments - Hamburg Suites is a great option to stay during a trip to Hamburg. These amazing apartments feature a mix of Nordic and Mediterranean design and have all equipment needed to make guests feel like they are home away from home. A wide range of cultural activities and dining options are also within walking distance.

Busan, South Korea

Although South Korea’s capital city Seoul is a hot spot for shopaholics, they should not overlook a trip to Busan, another bustling city in South Korea, which is also highly endorsed for shopping by Booking.com travelers. Shinsegae Centum City, located in the heart of Busan, is officially the world's largest department store, spanning two buildings and 5.5 million square feet. The department store is not only a great Busan attraction for those looking for some retail therapy, but it also offers leisure and entertainment facilities such as a traditional Korean spa, an indoor ice-skating rink and multiplex theater. Travelers can also spend a day getting inspired and shopping at Biff Square, a very lively street with many fashion and entertainment options.

Where to stay: UH SUITE Landscape 2 is a beautiful apartment building that features modern designed rooms that are fully furnished to feel like home, including a refrigerator, flat-screen TV and complimentary toiletries, so guests will immediately feel at home. The rooms have great sea views, as the property is a short walk from the popular Haeundae Beach. Shinsegae Centum City department store is nearby, making it a perfect place to rest after a full day of shopping.

Brisbane, Australia

Even though fashion Down Under is usually connected to Sydney, with a famous fashion week taking place there every year, Brisbane is one of the greatest shopping destinations in Australia. According to our data, shopping is the number one endorsement from past Booking.com customers who traveled to Brisbane. Visitors can shop for a whole new wardrobe at Queen Street Mall, a shopping and lifestyle precinct located in the heart of the city with over 700 shops. For travelers interested in vintage fashion should take a stroll down Given and Latrobe Terraces in Paddington, which is lined with Australian local boutiques that are run by passionate owners.

Where to stay: Located in South Brisbane, Ivy Eve Apartments is a 30-minute walk from Paddington and Queen Street Mall shopping areas. All units are fit for a fashionista and feature a modern interior and are fitted with a balcony. Guests have many options at the property to relax between all the shopping sprees. Ivy Eve Apartments boasts an outdoor infinity swimming pool, spa center and a fitness room. Guests can also relax on the deck with sun loungers or enjoy a movie at the outdoor cinema.
