Devised from more than 102 million genuine guest reviews, the list has been released to mark the site’s one millionth accommodation listing.

These five properties have been rated the best in the land by Kiwi travellers. From the winterless north to the stunning south, this collection of accommodations reveals our love for bed and breakfasts, and their welcoming hosts.

By the Park B&B, Whangarei (Rated 9.8/10)

Rated as number one in New Zealand, By the Park B&B is a modern, riverside home and fantastic base from which to explore the winterless north. According to reviews, the warm hospitality of the host, Kathy, is what really makes this Whangarei accommodation sparkle. Recent guest, Nancy, said “What a beautiful home and an amazing hostess! Kathy was so welcoming and the facilities were luxurious…”

Beachlands Bed & Breakfast, Papamoa (Rated 9.8/10)

Just a short walk away from Papamoa beach, Beachlands Bed & Breakfast brings a touch of luxury to the coast. Guests’ favourite things about this accommodation are relaxing in the spa pool and enjoying the home cooked breakfast. Claire, thoroughly enjoyed her stay last summer, “Dianne and Graham were perfect hosts. Really helpful and welcoming, excellent breakfast and beautiful home.”

Hokonui Bed & Breakfast  (Rated 9.8/10)

Hokonui Bed and Breakfast is a rural retreat on idyllic farmland. Famous for fishing and country music, visitors to Gore loved the peacefulness of this property. The Mataura River, one of the world’s best for trout fishing is nearby, as is the Gore Golf Course. For guest, Wendy, the location was perfect, “Beautiful quiet rural location but still only a few minutes from town.”

@Riverhills, Palmerston North (Rated 9.9/10)

Set on the banks of the Manawatu River, @Riverhills is a longtime Kiwi favourite in Palmerston North. Guests of this bed and breakfast love the expansive views over the river. With both a modern gym and private home theatre, this property aims to provide for a guest’s every need. Reflecting on her stay, visitor, Caretle, said, “They [the hosts] were very friendly, and gave great advice on the tourism activities in the North Island. I enjoyed the lounge with the 180 degree window that overlooks the river.”

Pleasant View Bed & Breakfast  (Rated 9.7/10)

The charming family home turned B&B sits overlooking the stunning Caroline Bay in Timaru. As the name suggests, guests get to enjoy the spectacular views of the bay from this property. On a sunny day, visitors can spend time wandering through the rose gardens nearby. Peter, a guest of the B&B puts it simply, as, “Excellent location close to walking track with great sea views.”
