New Zealand Beats Australia as the Best Accommodation Provider

The results of this year’s annual Booking.com Guest Review Awards are in, with 13 Kiwi properties being honoured. This is one more award than our competitors across the ditch have received, despite Australia having over three times the number of entries.

The yearly awards are given to the properties that have consistently received perfect 10 scores from genuine guests who have visited them.

There are currently 4,538 New Zealand based properties on Booking.com. Comparatively, Australia has a much larger pool of 14,643. As well as beating the Aussies, the number of Kiwi properties receiving awards has increased from six to 13 since 2016.

“The jump in award recipients is a sign of the growth in quality Kiwi accommodation and how owners are making the most of the tourist boom,” Luke Ashall, Booking.com country manager for New Zealand, says.

“This is obviously great news for the properties that receive awards as well as the New Zealand tourism industry and economy.”

Properties from across the country have been recognised, including Marlborough, Wellington, Russell, Auckland, Hokitika and many more.

This year has also seen an increase in the variation of property types achieving the perfect 10 score. The winners this year included B&Bs, holiday homes, a guest house, country house apartment, lodge and a tented camp, reflecting continued global increase in the demand for holiday rentals.

Carmel, owner of award-winning property, Rosebrook Country Homestead in Drury, explains what it means for her property to win a Guest Review Award.

“We’ve put a lot of hard work in to ensuring our guests have an enjoyable stay with us. It largely comes down to being welcoming and making people feel well looked after.

Booking.com acts as a great platform for us to showcase our property and connect with potential customers from all over the world. Being one of only 13 New Zealand properties to receive an award is a huge honour,” says Carmel.

Regardless of where they stay, travellers don’t just need a place to lay their head. A truly memorable stay lies in the details. The Booking.com Guest Review Awards recognises those properties that get all those details right.

Notes to editors:

To be recognised with an award, properties had to have an average review score of 8.0 or higher based on at least 10 reviews as of 11:59pm (CET) on October 31, 2016. Only customers that have actually stayed at an accommodation can leave a review of their experience on Booking.com. After they have checked out of the property, they are invited to rate their accommodation experience against six categories: cleanliness, comfort, location, facilities, staff and value for money. As these reviews are never edited or adjusted in any way, travellers can reference them for an authentic account of what the real guest experience is like at every place to stay on Booking.com.
