While travel may have been put on pause, that hasn’t stopped many from dreaming about their next vacation and rediscovering the joys of travel, especially when it comes to researching and deciding their travel plans. And for many Brits, their first trips post-lockdown are taking shape in the form of the great British getaway, discovering that they don’t have to travel far to experience the world and to create great memories.
With the ever-evolving complexities of travel restrictions and quarantine rules, the convenience of a domestic stay has proved more appealing than ever, with 35% of British travelers intending to take a domestic trip in the next three months*. For many, they’ve already rediscovered that the best trips are the ones closer to home. With that in mind, we reveal the top UK destinations first booked by British travelers after the lifting of Coronavirus related restrictions**, uncovering the trends of what British travelers did first as well as inspire those who are still looking to take that first trip, whenever they feel safe to do so.
London
Top on Brits first trip list was rediscovering the charm of England’s capital. London is a popular destination with locals and international travelers alike for its rich culture, history and delicious eats. Following recent closures, many of London’s major museums and galleries have already announced their reopening dates, meaning visitors can safely enjoy a socially distant day out, and without the crowds of international tourists. Outdoors, visitors can stroll along the famous River Thames, passing the Houses of Parliament and stop for a bite to eat on the famous Southbank.
Where to stay: Across the river in North London, STAY Camden offers chic accommodation options with views of the city’s skyline. Liverpool
