Four Vegan-Friendly Destinations to Celebrate World Vegan Month

Look forward to enjoying mouthwatering vegan cuisine when it’s safe to travel again

Celebrate World Vegan Month throughout November by opting for a stay that caters to vegetarians and vegans, when and where it is safe to travel again. Research from Booking.com found that more than 1 in 10 (13%)* of U.S. travelers consider finding an accommodation that provides a wide range of vegetarian or vegan options to be one of the most important things when planning a trip.   

Booking.com has delved into its more than 29 million listings, including over 6.6 million listings of homes, apartments and other unique places to stay in, in over 153,000 destinations and territories around the world to compile a roundup of some of the best destinations for vegan cuisine, along with the best places to stay. 

Chiang Mai, Thailand 

Chiang Mai is nestled in the mountains of northern Thailand. It is Thai tradition to use little or no meat when cooking so this has resulted in the city being filled with delicious vegan restaurants, as well as still featuring ancient artifacts. 

Where to stay: Away Chiang Mai Thapae Resort – This vegan retreat offers both a vegetarian cuisine and a variety of excellent vegan dishes as well as a detox cleanse bar, in its in-house restaurant. This plush resort is within easy walking distance from various temples and cultural sites, making it easy for travelers to tick those off their itinerary when visiting this breathtaking city.

La Laguna, Nicaragua 

Nicaragua is a great place for foodies, boasting delicious traditional dishes of homegrown ingredients. It is also ideal for vegans with its array of exotic fresh fruit and local dishes, including Gallo Pinto (rice and beans) and Buñuelos (dough balls with syrup). La Laguna is a nature reserve in Nicaragua and, with no motorboats allowed in the lake, it makes for a most idyllic vacation setting for those looking for a relaxing break.

Where to stay: Apoyo Lodge is situated right by the lake and features direct access to the lagoon and wellness activities. As well as daily yoga classes, the lodge also has a completely plant based and gluten free restaurant. 

Berlin, Germany  

Despite Germany being known for many traditional meat dishes, Berlin has greatly expanded its meat-free culinary scene. The German capital is one of the top-endorsed destinations for vegetarian cuisine according to Booking.com travelers who have visited the city. As well as its diverse range of foods, the city emits an edgy ambience with its iconic street art and consists of numerous historical sites for you to marvel at.  

Where to stay: The Hotel OTTO offers delicious vegan options as part of the varied breakfast buffet and is filled with an eye-catching, modern decor. It is situated in a prime location, just minutes away from the Kurfurstendamm, a famous avenue encompassing theaters, museums, restaurants and bars.  

Tel Aviv, Israel  

Tel Aviv is highly regarded as a city that’s well suited to the Vegan community, with approximately 400 vegan-friendly restaurants to pick from! As well as sampling the vegan delights available, tourists can take a stroll along the stunning beaches, visit inspiring museums and get swept up in Tel Aviv’s tempting shopping scene.  

Where to stay: The Norman Tel Aviv boasts two on-site restaurants which offer an array of vegan options. The swanky property also includes a rooftop pool, a modern fitness center, wellness area and library, with each room overlooking the spectacular city.

In order to participate in this survey, respondents had to be 18 years of age or older, had to have traveled at least once in the past 12 months and be either the primary decision maker or involved in the decision making of their travel. The survey was taken online and took place in March 2020.
