Adding just a piece or two of glitz can make all the difference to your home, enhancing the style and sophistication of the space. Internationally renowned fashion designer, Christian Cowan, who has collaborated with Booking.com this holiday season to create the ‘House of Sparkle- the world’s most sparkly accommodation - shares five ways for hosts to add a touch of sparkle magic to their home this December, so family, friends or guests have a visit to remember.
1. Twinkling Textiles
Use fabrics to get your sparkle fix. Velvet, silk and satin all reflect the light to add a subtle shimmer to a room. One of the easiest ways to give your home a new look as the seasons change is with soft furnishings, so why not try introducing luxury fabrics with a range of throws, cushions and bed linen.
2. Sensational Settings
Add some festive sparkle to your home with a memorable table setting. Table styling has become something of an art form in recent years and it’s the perfect opportunity to flex your creative muscles and inject a bit of festive fun! Try making your own show-stopping table centrepiece with candles, evergreens, shimmering baubles and gold and silver sprayed berries – you’ll be sure to impress your guests.
3. Lighten up
Create a dazzling display with fairy lights – once you get them untangled they create a postcard-perfect scene. Twist them around bannisters, frame the front door, pop them in a vase or glass lantern, or hang them off the mantlepiece – the possibilities are endless, but the results are magical.
4. Metallic details
Deck the halls with metal flavours – this trend isn’t going away. Metallic golds, silver, copper, bronze and brassall shimmer and shine as much as a ton of glitter. From silver lamps to golden mirrors – choose a few standout pieces to scatter around the house.
5. Alternative Christmas Trees
The glitter trend can be dialled up or down depending on your room and tastes, but what better place to go all out than the Christmas tree? Many of today’s artificial trees are pre-lit and can go indoors or outdoors so why not extend the trend outside with a beautiful white light up birch tree or two slim pre-lit trees outside the front door.
