73% Indian Travellers plan to take more weekend trips

Booking.com reveals the 2019 Long Weekend Guide for travellers from Bengaluru

Summary

Booking.com, the global leader in connecting travelers with incredible places to stay, reveals the key motivations for Indian travellers to travel in 2019. The research shows that 84% of the Indian travellers wish to take time off to mentally unwind. Likewise 88% of the Indian travellers travel to give themselves time to relax. Holding true to tradition, 84% of Indian travelers travel to be together as a family while 83% seek to get a change from their busy jobs.

With the intense work culture and fast-paced lifestyles in Bengaluru, a long weekend is a saving grace for the city dwellers to destress and relax. According to a recent survey by Booking.com, almost three quarters of Indian travellers plan to take more weekend trips in 2019 (73%). It’s a year that’s predicted to be all about made-to-measure, bite sized travel with more curated travel itineraries squeezed into shorter time frames. Less is most definitely more as travelers are offered a more bespoke experience.

Here’s a list of some less frequented, even unexplored weekend getaways curated by Booking.com for travellers from Bengaluru. From scuba diving to rappelling and from firefly safaris to spider trails, these are truly out of the ordinary.

Long weekend in January 2019

Bandipur

Set up as a tiger reserve in the year 1974, Bandipur National Park is outstanding for its amazing natural beauty. Yercaud

Located in the Eastern Ghats, Yercaud is a very scenic hill station with lush green forests, vast coffee plantations and some really unique flora and fauna. One can trek to the Killiyur Falls, or just relax and go boating in the Emerald lake surrounded by picturesque mountain peaks. If you are someone who enjoys flower sighting you can visit the Botanical garden and the National Orchidarium (ranked the third largest of all the orchidariums in India), that house many unique and endangered species. The famous Kurinji flower known for its peculiar characteristic to bloom only once in twelve years grows in abundance here

Chikmagalur

This district is also home to several waterfalls, including Manikyadhara, Kallathigiri, Kadambi and Sirimane falls. The district is the coffee hub of Karnataka, given the numerous coffee plantations found here. You can take a walk in the coffee plantations, letting the bitter-sweet aroma relax your senses, or you can even trek to the Mullayanagiri peak, the highest peak in Karnataka, for an absolutely spectacular view of the setting sun. Sringeri, Kalasa, Belavedi, and Amrithapura are few of the many pilgrim centres in Chikmagaular. Also a must see are the The Hebbe Falls famous for their scenic beauty and the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary and Kudremukh National Park renowned for its biodiversity.

The two main attractions of the place are the Kabini Wildlife Sanctuary and Kabini Dam. There is also the Nagarhole National Park which is just a km away from the Kabini. A laid-back ambience lets you completely relax, and rejuvenate, away from the hectic schedule of your daily life. To its south is the Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary that is home to Tigers, Leopards and Cobras.

Hampi

Hampi has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, due to the prevalent ruins of the once capital of the Vijaynagar Empire. The place has close to 500 historical artefacts. The ruins of the Virupaksha temple, a shrine to a patron of the empire is a popular tourist attraction. For those backpacking to Hampi, it is advisable to rent a vehicle, as this open museum has over a 100 locations to visit. Some of the notable ones include, Hampi Bazaar, Elephant Stables, Zenana Enclosure and the Lotus Palace.

Fondly known as the virgin beach, this white sand beach is considered to be one the most picturesque and beautiful beaches in Karnataka. The beach offers several activities like snorkeling, scuba diving and cruising as well.
