Try before you buy (the home): Booking.com explores global trend of travellers using hosted holiday experiences to inform a big move
- 38% of global travellers feel that staying with a host is a way for them to "try out" a destination as a place they could permanently move to in the future
- A third (31%) expect hosts to be an opportunity to meet new people locally
- 29% of global travellers would find hosts inviting them to a party during their stay appealing
New research by Booking.com, the global leader in connecting travellers with the widest choice of incredible places to stay, reveals that two in five (38%) of global travellers take advantage of their stay with a host whilst on vacation to ‘try before they buy’ an overseas move on a permanent basis. The research, which questioned 21,500 global travellers across 29 markets, found these travellers are relying on the invaluable insider knowledge they can obtain by staying in hosted accommodation, such as an apartment, villa or bed and breakfast, to help them make such a major life decision.
Local accommodation owners and managers are ideally placed to share key insights into everything a person would need to know when considering a permanent move to a new country, and some curious travellers are even looking for the people managing their stay to provide an even deeper immersion into local life. The research also revealed that a third of global travellers (33%) consider staying in ‘hosted’ accommodation to be an opportunity to meet new people locally. Furthermore, forty-four percent (44%) would find being invited to a party by their accommodation host appealing.
