Celebrating the Separation

Australians are no longer wallowing over a relationship break up, but taking charge of their new and independent lives by celebrating with a group holiday

New research conducted by Booking.com shows that more people are taking group holidays post break-up. In fact, 1 in 10 Aussies identified a separation holiday as their most recent or next upcoming trip*.

Booking.com has discovered that Australians are taking these trips to signal a new beginning (67%), to let go of their old life (47%) and to enjoy the benefits of being single again (36%). Naturally, any element of the ‘ex factor’ is strictly forbidden, with more than half of Australians (52%) agreeing that any mutual friends of the ex-partner are off the guest list*.

Booking.com Australia spokesperson Jaime De Silva says, “In 2017, we expect to see this new trend of separation trips pick up with more and more people treating group holidays as a way of celebrating key milestones in their lives.

“The research tells us that a separation celebration has some specific requirements to get the trip in full swing. Things like accommodation that’s big enough for the whole group to have fun, but still has room to enjoy personal space for those inevitable reflection moments. A great outdoor space and pool are also an added bonus.”

Booking.com has more than one million accommodation listings globally meaning there’s something for everyone.
