Booking.com Launches UNO, Pictionary and Scrabble Themed Getaways

Mattel’s iconic games brands, UNO, Pictionary and Scrabble, have partnered with leading digital travel company Booking.com to create three ultimate games getaway locations: House of UNO, Pictionary Palace and Scrabble Shack.

The themed dwellings are located in the Sunshine Coast’s Maleny and the Blue Mountains’ Medlow Bath and Katoomba. Only a short drive from city hubs, each location is designed to bring gameplay to the heart of the holiday and offer Australians the ultimate digital detox experience with their loved ones.

Psychotherapist Georgina Manning said, “This year, all Australians have experienced a level of heightened uncertainty and stress due to the impact of COVID-19. Non-digital gameplay is a powerful tool to switch off, unwind and connect with family and friends.” Queenslanders can enjoy time away at the nostalgic House of UNO – a beautiful hideaway elevated in the treetops of the Sunshine Coast hinterland. The property boasts incredible surrounding rainforest views – seen through a glass encased living area.

Guests can expect a dose of nostalgia as their surroundings are transformed with Draw 4 pillows, UNO-themed throws and exclusive UNO pyjamas to lounge in. Plus, they’ll be able to sip their morning coffee from bespoke UNO mosaic mugs and printed ‘Reverse Card’ coasters. House of UNO is an UNO fanatic’s dream destination.

In New South Wales, those who book the Pictionary Palace or Scrabble Shack will swap smartphones and emails for pencils and dictionaries. Stays will be in idyllic 3-4-bedroom properties in the serene Blue Mountains – surrounded by eucalyptus forests they are perfect for a family getaway to relax, recharge and reconnect. Guests can expect to be immersed by board game-inspired objects – including large-scale Scrabble wall art and oversized sand timers (no pressure!). Plus, they’ll have access to the well-known master games, and fan favourite variations like, UNO Junior, Pictionary Air and Harry Potter Scrabble.

The destinations chosen for the getaways reflect locations where Aussies have flocked to when rediscovering domestic travel in the past months. Maleny and the broader Sunshine Coast has been a standout destination for the past three months trending at #4 on Booking.com’s top searched Queensland destinations**. Likewise, the Blue Mountains and Katoomba have seen popularity increase over winter and into #3 on Booking.com’s most searched New South Wales destinations**.

Luke Wilson, Area Manager Australia at Booking.com said, “With international travel off the cards, Aussies have rediscovered the great outdoors, with holiday homes and bush getaways seeing sizable recent search increases on Booking.com. It’s our mission to make it easier for everyone to experience Australia - offering the widest choice, great value and easiest experience for Aussies to get out and holiday here this year.

“With these unique UNO, Pictionary and Scrabble homes, we’re encouraging Australians to rediscover this great country, whilst reconnecting with family and friends through game play.”
