All about the ‘all-amusive’: Booking.com reveals some of the top destinations that offer something for everyone

Modern life is busy. Many of us are often stretched for time - whether at work, scheduling catch ups with friends, or simply finding time for ourselves. When it comes to our vacation days there is a desire to be as time-efficient as possible to make the most of this time away. It’s no surprise then that Booking.com, the digital travel leader connecting travellers with the widest choice of unique places to stay, a range of must-do travel experiences and seamless transport options, predicted that 2020 will see a rise in travellers exploring the ‘all-amusive’, and visiting destinations that offer an array of enriching experiences and attractions that are all in one place.

Booking.com research found that half (50%)* of UK travellers would like to go on one long trip to a place that has all their favourite activities and sights close together, and 60%* agree that efficiency is key – claiming they would choose a destination that offers all their favourite activities and sights near each other to maximize time away. To help with 2020 travel planning, Booking.com has tapped into data and endorsements across its 155,000 destinations in 227 countries and territories across the globe to identify places that offer those all-amusive experiences, enabling travellers to get the most out of their next trip**.

Savannah, Georgia, USA

Affectionately known by some as the “hostess city”, Savannah not only offers something for every traveller but does so with a smile. This ‘all-amusive’ city is steeped in southern charm and offers something for everyone. For history lovers, Savannah boasts a rich heritage as one of the United States’ oldest planned cities. Travellers can learn more about the city’s past with a tour of the Bonaventure Cemetery or explore the 22 historic squares in downtown on a walking tour. Film-lovers can enjoy taking a seat in well-known bench in Chippewa Square where Tom Hanks previously sat as part of an iconic movie moment. For travellers seeking a more restful stint on their vacation, nearby Tybee Island offers five beach options to enjoy. As a top foodie destination, travellers can indulge in local delicacies such as pecan pralines and even visit Ghost Coast Distillery to learn about prohibition era and the art of crafting the local vodka.

Where to stay: As charming as the surrounding city, the Foley House Inn offers bed and board in the heart of Savannah. Naha, Japan

The capital of the Okinawa Prefecture, Naha is a bustling city amongst an archipelago of 160 islands and is home to treasured historical sites including the World Heritage Site, Shurijo Castle Park and the Kinjo Stone-paved Road in Shuri. Nature lovers can soak up the serenity of Fukushūen, a Chinese-style garden created in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the ‘sister city’ relationship between Naha and Fuzhou in China. As a metropolis, Naha is also the perfect spot for city-strollers and souvenir shoppers, with Kokusai Dori home to tourist stores, bars, cafes, clothing stores and restaurants. The nearby First Makishi Public Market is also perfect for travellers looking to stock up on everything from seafood to souvenirs.

Where to stay: The Kitchen Hostel Ao is the perfect base to explore both Naha’s bustling shopping street as well as its more serene Naminoue Beach. Travellers looking to maximize their ‘all-amusive’ escape can make use of the property’s 24-hour check-in and arrive at a time that best suits their time-efficient planning!

Montevideo, Uruguay
An eclectic capital city, Montevideo is a place of many styles - from art deco and neoclassical buildings nestled amongst the skyscrapers in the historic downtown, to the exclusive beachside suburb of Carrasco, juxtaposed against the coast’s bustling industrial port. For travellers though, this juxtaposition makes the city the perfect ‘all-amusive’ destination. The historic district of Ciudad Vieja is the ideal setting for a tranquil stroll in the daytime amongst the pedestrian walkways, patios and cafes. As the sun sets, Ciudad Vieja comes to life with bars for night owls to enjoy. Culture-loving travellers can embark on a walking tour of the city’s vibrant street art amongst Parque Rodo and Cordon. The Port Market is next on the itinerary for hungry history-lovers, with the building’s iron pillars and timber roof dating back to the 1800s. Here, visitors can indulge in carnivorous treats including pamplonas and matambres.

Where to stay: For a chic city stay, travellers will love the Design Apart in Montevideo’s city centre. This self-catering place to stay sleeps four and offers all the mod-cons needed in a home-from-home, with flat-screen satellite TVs, iPod docks and complete kitchen facilities. The location is tipped as a great choice for travellers interested in architecture, culture and old town exploring.

Scarborough, England

This sometimes-overlooked nostalgic British seaside town is rated by Booking.com travellers as an all-amusive destination for its beaches and abundance of activities. History-buffs can learn all about the Yorkshire town’s history at Scarborough Castle or explore the fascinating exhibitions - from fossils, to skeletons from the Bronze Age at the Rotunda Museum. Closer to the coast, visitors can soak up their surroundings while taking a ride on Britain's most historic seaside miniature railway or climb aboard one of Scarborough’s two running funiculars (cliff railways). Along the seafront, foodie-focused travellers can indulge in award-winning ice-cream or enjoy local seafood caught daily on trips from the thriving harbour, including crabs and lobsters. For adventure-loving travellers, the Sky Trail Adventure has a bridge and beam course, or water babies can make a splash at Alpamere Waterpark. This year will even see the Tour De Yorkshire pass through Scarborough, making it the perfect time for sport fans to visit.

Budva is one of the oldest urban centers in the Adriatic, with its Old Town dating back 2,500 years. Travellers can walk the city walls, explore the Citadela and visit Church of Sveti Ivan– a monumental basilica. Those that prefer a slower-paced vacation can enjoy Budva’s Sveti Stefan and Sveti Nikola Islands. Architecture lovers can marvel at Hadrian’s Gate which honours the Roman emperor Hadrian, who visited the city in the year 130 or visit the historical site of Kaleiçi and marvel at the creakily dilapidated Ottoman-era architecture. Nature lovers can explore the nearby Koprulu Canyon National Park which is perfect for hikers or even those who prefer opting for a slower pace to give them ample moments to take in the Mediterranean scenery.
