50th Anniversary of the San Francisco Summer of Love

Celebrating 50 Years of San Francisco’s Summer of Love

In 1967, thousands of young hippies in America turned to San Francisco to celebrate the Summer of Love. Exactly 50 years after the gathering hit headlines, the Californian city will put on a plethora of cultural events to celebrate the anniversary of this historical event.

From major exhibitions at top museums to special concerts, the celebrations will look back at the summer of 1967, echoing the relaxed and carefree nature of the spiritual 60’s. Kicking off the activity will be a free Summer of Love concert in the Golden Gate Park in June, where over 150,000 people are expected to attend to celebrate love!

After the celebrations, why not explore the wider city in all its glory? Whether you decide to take a beat-era walking tour on the beach, learn about how Alcatraz Prison was dominated by American Indians during the Peace Movement or take a trip to the seaside town of Sausalito, there is something for everyone in this fascinating city.

To help you plan your trip, Booking.com, the global leader in connecting travellers with awesome accommodation, has put together some suggestions of must-see sites and places to stay, based on over 108 million real customer reviews.
